LVO Day 1 Top Player Breakdown

After day one of LVO was in the books, I decided to take a look at the remaining undefeated players from this massive field. After the first three rounds, there were 39 players with a 3-0 record. For ease of data entry, I'm only looking at this segment of the field (for now at least). Note, this does not include 2-0-1 players who are undefeated but will have a tough road to make the cut for Day 3.

First off, let's look at the faction breakdown:

This is based off reported primary factions. First off, we see a pretty decent spread, with a couple unexpected armies being represented, like two Dark Eldar mains and a Harlequins main. At the same time, I don't think it's a surprise to anyone to see Eldar and Daemons atop the heap, with a healthy dose of Imperials right behind.

From here, I opted to take a quick look at the larger "blob" of where the armies fall - as we all know which Primaries often include their best friends. For this I grouped Chaos, Imperial, Eldar, and other Xenos:

Again, not too surprising that the "Other Xenos" category is lagging behind, while the remainder has an even split of Chaos and Imperial, with Eldar close in tow.

Finally, thanks to the List feature in the Best Coast Pairings app, I decided to dive into some of the lists. For today, I opted to look at those I lumped into Chaos as they've undergone some of the more dramatic changes recently and I was curious which new models or formations were making a healthy showing.

So, here's a few quick snapshots (note, this is out of 11, as one player's list is not available):

Formations
# of Lists
Heralds Anarchic
4
Omniscient Oracles
4
Cyclopea Cabal
2
Rehati War Sect
1

Notable Unit
# of Lists
Magnus
6
Fateweaver
6
Knights/Superheavy
1

Detachment Type
# of Lists
Formation
11
CAD
10
Allied
4
Combi-Detachments
1

From this, we can see some interesting trends. Starting from the top table, the Formations of choice are the Heralds and Omniscient Oracles. Out of the top 5 from the Chaos players (30 points or more), there are 3 of the 4 of each of these two formations, with two of the players having both formations in their list.

Moving on to the Notable Units, Magnus and Fatey are the most predominant ones. Four of the top five have Fateweaver, while only two have Magnus. Additionally, three of the top five lists also included the Masque of Slaanesh. Lastly, it was interesting to see only a single list had any superheavies, with two Renegade Knights in a Renegades list.

Finally, looking at detachments, it was interesting to see that almost every list used a CAD for at least one of their detachments. Meanwhile, only a single list used a multi-detachment (Decurion-like). It isn't any surprise that every list reported had at least one formation. Though, if we want to dig into that a little, it was interesting that only one list included a formation from a non-chaos source: one Riptide Wing.

So, wrapping up, what interesting trends have you noted or are curious to see? I am definitely curious to see how the top eight works out and how the representation shakes out after today's rounds. Thanks!
